DAILYKENN.com -- A former police officer was fatally shot during an attempted carjacking in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Reports say 31-year-old Ryan Hord was gunned down at 11:38 pm on May 1, 2020.
Arrested is Craig Willis, 29. Craig remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Hord apparently attempted to defend himself and his property.
Willis was shot, reports say, and attempted to flee on foot.
Hord was shot and died at the scene from him injuries.
The victim was a former Baton Rouge police officer.
According to his obituary: He was native of Baton Rouge where he attended Lee High School and went on to become an Airborne Ranger for the United States Army and proudly served his country.
And: His most proud accomplishment though was his son, Blaine. Ryan loved spending time with his son and showing him the true ropes of life. On weekends they enjoyed bike rides along the levee, spending time with friends and family, and attending LSU football games together.
According to theadvocate.com: The incident happened hours after two Baton Rouge Police officers were shot Sunday afternoon, and one of them later died. The officers were shot while responding to tips about a homicide suspect — later identified as Ronnie Kato — in the city's Howell Park neighborhood. Police said there's no evidence that Hord's death is related to the earlier ambush on law enforcement.
