Georgia has completed the purchase of Javelin anti-tank missile systems from the United States.

According to Georgia's Defence Minister Levan Isoria, the USA has completed the delivery of all Javelin systems to the former Soviet republic. The minister also said that Georgia would continue buying weapons from Washington as part of the long-term procurement strategy.

The official also announced plans to expand Georgia's cooperation with NATO and the United States. Georgia is already negotiating joint exercises on the territory of the country with the use of its military infrastructure.

The first batch of Javelin systems was delivered to Georgia in January 2018. Georgia and the United States agreed on arms procurement in 2017. As part of the deal, Georgia was going to purchase 410 Javelin missiles and 72 command and launch posts, as well as ten training complexes. In November of the same year, the US State Department approved the sale of missile systems to Georgia worth $75 million.

Representatives of the Russian Ministry for Foreign Affairs said that the USA was pushing Georgia to “new dangerous adventures”.
