In the town of Sibay, the republic of Bashkortostan, the water in the small Karagaily river has turned orange. Several days ago, the authorities flooded the abandoned copper ore open-pit mine of the Uchalinsky mining factory, which had been the source of heavy smog in the area for a long period of time.

Local activist Diana Demidova published a video of several children playing on the bank of the small river, the water in which does look orange.

According to the activist, the Uchalinsky mining and processing plant has been polluting the river for the last four years. The pollution has killed all fish species in the river, the woman said.

Together with other activists, Demidova turned to the territorial committee of the Ministry of Ecology of Bashkortostan.
