On July 20, a special ceremony was conducted in Washington to open the Cuban Embassy in the United States. The head of the Cuban Ministry for Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez conducted negotiations with US Secretary of State John Kerry sad other US officials. The event marked the end of more than 50 years of the cold war between the United States of America and Cuba.

In Havana, a more modest ceremony will be held: the building of the American mission will simply be renamed into the embassy.

Cuban President Raul Castro reminded his American counterpart Barack Obama of the need to lift the economic embargo from the Island of Freedom. For the time being, the question remains open.
