American officials say that they spotted Russian bombers near the State of California. F-15 fighter jets took off to intercept the Tupolev 95 bombers, the number of which was not specified. In the USA, this bomber is known as "The Bear."
The head of the U.S. Air Force Herbert Carlisle linked this event with the conflict in Ukraine.
"We have no doubts about the fact that Russia's actions in Ukraine have a direct impact on the Asia-Pacific region. Russian planes reached California and circled above the island of Guam," he said.
Earlier, the Pentagon accused Russia of excessive aggressiveness in connection with the story, when the Sukhoi 24 bomber maneuvered near the U.S. military ship Donald Cook, that entered the Black Sea.
