Ukrainian deputies proposed to ban the ribbon of St. George. The ribbon became a symbol of resistance to the new authorities in Kiev in the south-east of the country. The authors of the bill want to equate the violation of the prohibition to "manifestation of extremism and separatism and prosecute offenders. Do the new Ukrainian authorities really believe that by banning the symbol they can forget the heroic past that Ukraine shares with Russia?

Andrei Krasov, a member of the Duma Committee for Defense, a Hero of Russia

"In Kiev, they do not want to tie their future with the remarkable and heroic past. These awards were given for courage and heroism displayed in the fight against the enemy, in the fight for freedom and independence. Banning these ribbons means striking out several pages in the history of the country that used to be called the Soviet Union. Today, no matter how Russia and Ukraine could be called, such a move will be meant to destroy the memory of our forefathers, who fought all together, shoulder to shoulder, regardless of their nationality, during the Great Patriotic War."
