The Russian deputies addressed a letter to Vladimir Putin, offering to break the Moscow Treaty of Brotherhood with Turkey, which was signed on 16 March 1921. According to them, the agreement was signed to the detriment of Moscow. Beside that, Armenia and Georgia don't recognize the Treaty of Kars, which was concluded in compliance with the Moscow one. Will Putin agree to the proposal?
Vladimir Avatkov, Director of the Center of Oriental Studies, International Relations and Public Diplomacy:
'In the current environment Russia should realize that after abolition of such treaties Turkey will not twiddle its thumbs and can undertake any actions that may be quite dangerous. Because in fact it is clear that Georgia and Armenia are not quite satisfied with these treaties. They hope that if these treaties are renounced, they will get something out of it, and I fear that neither Georgia, nor Armenia, nor Russia will get something positive. As Turkey will claim then that it does not recognize the current borders of Russia, Georgia and Armenia. And it will be quite dangerous, it will deteriorate already difficult situation, which is certainly such not through our fault, but that of the Turkish Republic. However, it won't become simpler because of that.'
