On April 10, 2019, scientists unveiled the first ever image of a black hole. It goes about the object known as Sagittarius A located in the center of our galaxy at a distance of 26 thousand light years from Earth.

The photo of the black hole was taken as part of the Event Horizon Telescope project, which united eight radio telescopes around the world, including in the United States, Mexico, Chile, Spain and France.

The project was launched to observe two supermassive black holes - SgrA * and an object in the center of Galaxy M87 (also known as Virgo A), at approximately 53.5 million light-years away from Earth. It is assumed that black hole SgrA * is 4 million times as heavy as the sun, while the mass of the black hole in Galaxy M87, according to various estimates, exceeds that of the sun by more than 7 billion times.

Observations were made in April 2017, but it took scientists two years to process the data.
