Hi, everyone, I'm the Senior Research Scientist and Scientific Director of the Bioinformatics Analysis Core at the University of Pittsburgh. In this channel, I'm going to describe, and demonstrate, some methodological challenges and solutions in bioinformatics. We'll cover everything from generic high dimensional data analysis problems to how to know when a given genomic location has sufficient information for determining the genotype. I'll challenge the community to raise their standards and expectations of the software resources available, and try to share how to know when bioinformatics software is providing robust and reliable results. From the analysis of Next Generation Sequence data to determining peptides present in mass spectrometry profiles, I'll share what I think I've learned over the last 20 or so years of using computer algorithms on biological data.
So, tune in and prepare to adopt a healthy dose of skepticism (or at least get a booster shot!)
