The boy, 15, was trying to help his friend stop a group of 15 to 20 men from taking his bike when they surrounded the teen and hit him while he was on the ground, Chicago police Officer Michelle Tannehill said in an email.

It happened near the carnival, held at 2501 W. Addison St., about 8:30 p.m., Tannehill said.

The teen was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital in an unknown condition, police said.

Two teens were attacked at a Memorial Day carnival outside a North Side Chicago school, authorities said, and one of the incidents, which appeared to be a massive brawl, was caught on camera by a witness who posted it to social media.

The first incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, when a 15-year-old boy was beaten by a group of 15-20 people at the carnival at Lane Tech College Prep High School, 2501 W. Addison St., according to Chicago authorities.

A second incident was reported less than two hours later when a 17-year-old was punched and robbed by a small group of males, according to police.

A 16-year-old suspect was taken into custody after police tracked a stolen cell phone in the incident. Further information on the suspect or any potential charges wasn’t immediately released.
