Indicted businessman Lev Parnas was not allowed to watch impeachment proceedings from the Senate gallery despite receiving tickets to the event.
Security blocked Parnas, 47, at the door to the gallery because of his ankle bracelet, according to the Daily Caller. Parnas is under indictment for violating U.S. campaign finance laws by funneling foreign money into U.S. campaigns.
Per Senate rules, no electronic devices are allowed in the chamber, and Parnas is not allowed to remove his ankle monitor. Forced to stay outside, he toured the Capitol instead.
Parnas had requested tickets to view President Trump's Senate impeachment trial. Parnas is an associate of Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and claims to have intimate knowledge of Trump and Giuliani’s mission in Ukraine. Parnas has said he should testify in the Senate trial and asserted that the White House is "scared" of him.
Trump has insisted that he does not know Parnas, calling the Ukrainian fixer a "con man." The president has dismissed photos and videos that have surfaced showing him with Parnas, saying that Parnas was "a groupie that shows up at fundraisers."
Parnas said he had a "surreal feeling" as reporters surrounded him and asked him questions on his way to the Senate.
"It's not something that I can explain. Right now, I think I'm just going on adrenaline, and I just pray. So far, God's been great. The truth's come out."
