An American writer and former professor has said that the whole use of “the framework of international law is a farce.”
“The United States just sent a request to the United Nations Security Council to vote approval on its agreement with the Taliban to withdraw from Afghanistan. Unfortunately, there are two secret clauses in it, which the United States is supposed to approve, without knowing what they are,” said E Michael Jones, the current editor of Culture Wars magazine.
“This, along with the circumstances of the withdrawal, point out the farcical nature of the United States’ manipulation of international law in our day, they're looking for some type of legal justification for what was an illegal invasion of this country,” he told Press TV.
“They want to use the United Nations when it's convenient to use them for moral or legal cover for what they're doing. Whenever the United Nations passes a resolution condemning Israel and creating new settlements or some the latest atrocity against the Palestinians, the United States simply ignores it or vetoes it or does something like that,” he stated.
“So it's, it's one more indication that the whole use of the framework of international law is a farce. And the United States has made it a farce because of its reckless disregard of any type of legal or moral standard in conducting his foreign policy,” he noted.
“The other part of this is that basically the United States is doing a rerun of Vietnam. This agreement is the legal equivalent of that helicopter that the last helicopter out of Saigon, with people dangling from the runners as the United States declared victory when it's really a defeat and an ignominious retreat from its adventure that never should have happened in the first place,” he concluded.
The United States has reportedly called on the United Nations Security Council to vote on a resolution to endorse Washington’s partially secret “peace” deal with the Afghan Taliban, as American troops have started an initial troop withdrawal from the country.
The US demand for the Security Council vote was revealed on Tuesday, following a week of tough negotiations, the diplomats said on Monday, according to AFP.
The sources also said that Washington’s call for the Security Council to adopt its deal with the Taliban “is a rare move in the forum for an accord between a foreign country and an insurgent group.”
Diplomats were also surprised that the agreement included two secret appendixes on the purported fight against terrorism that Security Council members “must approve without even knowing what they say,” with one diplomat describing it as “unbelievable.”'
