UKIP is making its presence felt in British politics despite having a solitary member of parliament.
Despite questions about their political legitimacy, the pool of potential supporters is becoming more vocal. When asked in an Observer poll if they ‘would vote for UKIP’ if they thought they could win in their constituency, 31% said yes. Nationally, the polls are still a close race Labour and the Conservatives both on 33% UKIP - 18% Liberal Democrats - 6% Greens - 4% Others - 6% Source: Observer/Opinium Ukip’s leader Nigel Farage promised a British political earthquake and so far it's debatable whether he and UKIP have delivered on this rather grand boast. What is not up for debate is the fact that UKIP is garnering support from some unlikely quarters but does this have more to do with people's growing dissatisfaction with mainstream politics and politicians? On the streets, it was a mixed reaction. Despite the poll news, it is the wider British public UKIP must convince. All the party leaders know they have to convince disillusioned voters that they deserve their support and with 2015 approaching, there might just be a few more surprises on the cards.
