This was the message relayed Thursday evening from the White House, as South Korea’s National Security Advisor Chung Eui-Yong made a historic announcement regarding the nuclear standoff with North Korea.

“North Korean leader Kim Jung Un said he’s committed to denuclearization, Kim pledged that North Korea would refrain from any further nuclear or missile tests,” Mr. Eui-Yong told reporters outside the White House. “He understands that the routine joint-military exercises between the Republic of Korea and the United States must continue, and he expressed his eagerness to meet President Trump as soon as possible.”

Flanked by South Korea’s National Intelligence Service chief Suh Hoon, Mr. Eui-Yong added that President Trump had verbally pledged to the South Korean officials that the in-person meeting with North Korea’s leader will occur before May.

A fact America’s commander-in-chief confirmed later on twitter, adding that great progress was being made to resolve the Korean crisis.

According to White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders the President has formally accepted the invitation, but the time and place of the meeting have yet to be determined.

Speaking from Africa, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson noted that the meeting would not be a negotiation, but rather the beginning of talks about talks, but did speak favorably about the diplomatic movement.

“I think as President Trump has indicated, potentially positive signals coming from North Korea by way of their intra-Korean dialogue with South Korea,” Secretary Tillerson said during a joint press conference with Ethiopia's foreign minister.

Though some are focusing on past failings and unfulfilled promises by Pyongyang, as evidence that these talks are simply a strategic diversion, none can argue that this historic development, could open the path, to a victory for peace, on par with the fall of the "Berlin Wall.”
