Will the goal to destroy the entire chemical weapon in Syria be achieved?
The Syria peace conference will likely be held in mid-November. That's the most convenient time for everyone, John Kerry believes. This decision was made during his talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
Anyway, regardless of the politicians' point of view, the date of the conference entitled "Geneva 2" should be set only after taking the opinions of the UN and the Arab League on Syria envoy Lakhdar Brahimi into account.
Everyone accepts that this conference is necessary - everyone but the Syrian opposition. There are a lot of different groups and formations that are against Bashar Assad, and there seems to be no easy way to bring them all to the table of negotiations.
The Syria peace conference was postponed several times. This is so ironic -- the people who want to overthrow the president they call dictator are not ready to negotiate, whereas Bashar Assad is vice versa ready for the dialogue.
And now there is not only the peaceful way out of the conflict on the agenda -- the destruction of all the chemical weapons attracts even more attention now. So will the opposite sites eventually hold the talks that could help to end the war in Syria?
