I colorized, fully restored, and added sound design to this rare footage filmed in 1924 in the occupied Rhineland, offering a valuable glimpse into daily life in Cologne and Krefeld during a pivotal moment in European history. Just a few years after World War I, the region remained under Allied occupation as required by the Treaty of Versailles, while Germany was recovering from the devastating hyperinflation crisis of 1923 and beginning to stabilize its economy with the introduction of the Rentenmark. Amid political tension and economic uncertainty, everyday life continued, trams moving through historic streets, workers commuting, merchants trading, and families gathering, capturing ordinary people during the early years of the Weimar Republic.
