Because of the recent developments in Syria, Russia has regained positions among world's most influential players, The Financial Times newspaper wrote. According to the authoritative publication, President Putin does not match the image of an outsider now. No matter how annoyed Washington could be about Russia's policy, the US administration can hardly ignore Russia.
The publication also said that Russia could offer the States an opportunity to coordinate joint efforts to combat the Islamic State. This could be possible, however, if the White House accepted Kremlin's position on Ukraine.
On September 28th, US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin are to meet at the UN General Assembly. The two presidents will try to come to an agreement on the Syrian and Ukrainian conflicts. But regardless of the outcome of the talks, Russia continues implementing its objectives - preventing Islamists from accessing the North Caucasus, assisting Syria and expanding influence in the Middle East.
