DAILYKENN.com -- 73-year-old Andrea Mazzoli was beaten to death with a hammer, reports say.

Arrested on multiple charges relating to the crime is Mazzoli's neighbor.

72-year-old Dalas Elder was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree assault of an elderly person, tampering with evidence, carrying a dangerous weapon, and interfering with an officer.

Apparently, the two women lived in the same apartment building in Manchester, Connecticut.

According to courant.com, Elder claimed the victim had taunted her and called her a racial slur.

Police, however, claimed in an arrest warrant that Elder "kept changing her story and was seen on video surveillance raising a hammer near where the victim, Andrea Mazzoli, was found."

From courant.com ▼ Police were called to the Hartford Road apartments on a report of a fall victim. Mazzoli was found face down in the mulch between two shrubs, directly below apartment 211. She had suffered crushing injuries to both sides of her head and multiple bone fragments had pierced her brain — clearly not the result of a fall, police said. Mazzoli also had bruises on her chest and left shoulder, and her apartment keys had been stripped from the lanyard found with her, the warrant said. Elder lived in apartment 211 and watched from her window as detectives processed the scene, the warrant said. Police had been to the building on Feb. 15, when Mazzoli complained that Elder had threatened her and said she was scared of the other woman, the warrant says. Mazzoli said she had been smoking a cigarette outside, near the window to Elder’s apartment, when Elder approached her and yelled, “If you knock on my door again, I’m going to beat the (expletive) out of you!” the warrant says. Elder then snatched Mazzoli’s chair and threw it in a dumpster, police said. She was charged with second-degree threatening and disorderly conduct. On April 23, a camera captured Mazzoli leaving through the rear door at 2:19 a.m., probably to smoke a cigarette as she routinely did, the warrant said. Shortly after, the video showed Elder in her bathrobe, holding a hammer in her right hand before opening the rear door, police said. The attack was not captured in the video, but police say it shows Elder facing the area where Mazzoli was found, raising the hammer and shaking it. After about 50 seconds, Elder is seen trying to reenter the building, but the door was locked. She then went back toward the area where Mazzoli was found and returned with a set of keys, police said.
