The US Air Force attacked a hospital in Afghanistan, killing 22 people, including employees of Doctors without Borders and patients. US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter promised a transparent investigation into the tragedy. US President Obama urged not to take hasty decisions.

However, as representatives of Doctors without Borders said, US aircraft were bombing the hospital for more than an hour. Moreover, the bombings did not stop even after NATO was informed about it. Spokespeople for the alliance said that the bombs were dropped on the those who were threatening the armed forces and the nearby medical facility could be damaged in the course of the operation.

Russia, the Red Cross and the UN have condemned the actions of the US Air Force. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that hospitals and medical staff are protected by international law.
