Dominique Venner's Histoire et Tradition des Européens (2002) is a foundational work of European identitarian thought, blending historical analysis, pagan revivalism, and a militant call for cultural resistance. Venner saw modern Europeans as disconnected from their ancestral roots, brainwashed by Christian universalism and Marxist materialism.
He aimed to reconstruct the "true history" of Indo-Europeans, free from liberal or Christian distortions.
Venner believed Europe’s survival depended on rediscovering its pre-Christian warrior traditions (Norse, Celtic, Greco-Roman).
The book rejects passive victimhood, urging Europeans to embrace their heroic past. Written in the early 2000s, Venner warned of mass immigration, demographic decline, and the erosion of European identity. 11 Years later, May 21, 2013 Venner's suicide, inside Notre-Dame Cathedral was a political and metaphysical protest against the destruction of European civilization AKA "Great Replacement"
He saw pagan revivalism as the only antidote to cultural annihilation. Global media downplayed his motives, framing it as "mental illness."
