How many tanks does Russia have? Some sources say it goes about 20 thousand vehicles, while others cut the number to ten or 17 thousand.
The number of 20 thousand is understandable - this is the amount of tanks that the USSR had before the country fell apart. However, ten or seventeen thousand are random numbers that have nothing to do with reality.
By 2005, Russia's armed forces had had the total of about 23,000 combat vehicles.
After that, the Russian army started reducing its fleet of tanks. A lot of them had been utilised and conserved with as little as 2,000 remaining in service.
According to most recent reports dated back to late 2018, Russian ground forces have 3030 combat vehicles and another 250 vehicles in the structure of the coastal forces of the Russian Navy. Another 10,200 tanks are kept in standby storage.
