We surpassed 100 subscribers! At the time of posting this video, we are sitting at 108 subscribers. Wow! I never would have thought that you all would like my videos enough to watch them, let alone subscribe! Thank you! All of you! I will be doing a give away for this occasion. It'll be a surprise and I don't mention it in the video. The only way you'll know about this is to read this or my comment in the comments section. All you have to do is comment on the video. That's it. After 2 weeks I will announce the winner and I will message you for your address at that time.
In this video we explore potassium metal, its history, some of its properties and many of its various reactions with a wide range of chemicals. We also blow up another 10 gallon fish tank with 20 grams of potassium by completely submerging it in the water by strapping it to a brick and dropping it in the fish tank. It is spectacular! There is also a reaction that I do not know the product that it makes. It is listed in the video and if you know the product made, let me know and I will list it here with your name along side it for providing the info. (that reaction has been figured out, keep scrolling to see the product) This is in no way a complete compilation of potassium and all of its properties. There are far too many to cover in just 1 video. This is just a compilation of the reactions that I personally find interesting and wanted to share with you.
The potassium + ethylene glycol reaction has been figured out. The product is HO-CH3--CH3-OK. The product was figured out by Poormans Chemist. Give his channel a visit. He posts many fascinating videos that are awesome to watch. Most of them show rare reactions and products that I have not seen anywhere else. It's a great channel with great content that deserves many, many more views and subs. I cannot find a way to share his channel quickly, so here is a link to a video to his channel and you can follow him from there. π
Also, at the end of the video I explain that when potassium explodes it is not due to the burning of hydrogen. It is due to a thing called a coulomb explosion. This is a fairly recent discovery and I have linked the research paper by Dr Phil Mason (YouTube channel - Thunderf00t) for the complete explanation here. He also has a video on the subject. π

Anyways, I just want to thank each and every one of you for the support. It means a lot to me and I definitely couldn't do any of this without some of you and your help and guidance. You know who you are. I especially want to thank the YouTube channel, Tech Gorilla, for providing the mercury that we use in our videos.
Our next video will be on Lithium metal and its properties. Keep an eye out for it around the end of January. The next one after that will be on Cesium metal.
