Aberdeen, Scotland, July 29, 2025 — Trump Opens Scottish Golf Course, Says He “Stopped the War” Before Tee Time while he officially opened his latest golf course on Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a brisk round of golf, declaring it “an unbelievable development” before returning to Washington, D.C. to, in his words, “put out fires all over the world.”
Flanked by his sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., Trump struck his first drive on the new course — which he named after his mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, a native of Scotland. The event blended celebration with statesmanship, as Trump briefly addressed global affairs, including a ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia.
“We’ll play it very quickly and then I go back to D.C. and we put out fires all over the world,” Trump said at the opening. “We did one yesterday, as you know, we stopped the war.” He called the ceasefire, which ended five days of border fighting, “much more important than playing golf.”
When asked about the war in Gaza, Trump responded that he’s “trying to get things straightened out,” signaling ongoing diplomatic efforts behind the scenes.
Set against the windswept Scottish coast, the 18-hole course represents the third Trump-owned property in Scotland. A longtime project, Eric Trump said it began as a “passion project for my father.” It follows the Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen (2012) and the historic Turnberry course (2014).
The opening ceremony featured Trump’s signature walkout anthem “YMCA,” a nod to his rally traditions. After his drive, Trump’s sons, along with Irish golfer Paul McGinley and American pro Rich Beem, each took their turn. The president then walked the fairway and continued his round.
In a rare moment of levity with the press, Trump thanked reporters for their coverage during his visit. “You’ve been terrific,” he said. “You’re wonderful news — not fake news — at least as of today.”
