This banana art is definitely a-peel-ing. Using a safety pin, artist Honey pricks tiny holes in the skin of the yellow fruit to create a kind of tattoo. As the fruit is exposed to air it turns brown and the image appears. Subjects include KISS rocker Gene Simmons, Doors singer Jim Morrison, and iconic British model Twiggy. The technique is similar to pointillism. Honey said: "When I'm not sitting in front of a computer, I'm always looking for something creative to do. We always have bananas in the house so then, I thought maybe I could draw on them but it wasn't easy as I thought it would be. I kept puncturing the skin with my pen. So I came up with the idea of using a safety pin instead, similar to what my tattoo artist friend did when he showed me how to tattoo." She says she spends up to two hours on each piece. And when she is done, she photographs them - then eats them. Her work can be seen online at hoooneyyyimhooome.tumblr.com
