New information about the state-of-the-art Russian assault rifle continues to emerge. This is a second-to-none rifle that can impress even most experienced military analysts in the West.
This rifle is known for the Russian initials as ADS - a two-medium special assault rifle designed for the Russian Navy and for special troops that provide security in water areas and on transport. The new rifle comes to replace APS assault rifle and SPP-1 pistol that have been in service since the 1970s.
Those weapons were peculiar for their elongated bullets, which made the magazine twice as wide compared to the regular one. The APS rifle and the SPP gun were great when used under water, but were extremely ineffective under common outdoor conditions. The special forces had to carry both underwater and classic weapons, which would greatly increase the weight of wearable equipment and reduce the mobility of the unit.
In the beginning of the new millennium the Sea-Lion ASM-DT was designed, which could be used with both underwater and standard cartridges. However, the underwater cartridges were still too large and heavy.
The Tula Design Bureau developed a new munition (5.45x39 caliber) and the ADS assault rifle based on the A-91 complex.
Thanks to the Bullpup technology, which makes it possible to design a shorter weapon without shortening the barrel, the weapon is accurate and effective.
The assault rifle features Picatinny rails for mounting various sights and other kits. The rifle is equipped with a 40 mm grenade launcher, which ensures effective combat action at a distance of up to 400 meters.
When firing, the ADS rifle releases empty cartridges not from a side, as in most Bullpup rifles, but forward. This peculiarity makes the weapon equally convenient for both right-handed and left-handed people. From what is known for the time being, the new assault rifle is efficient in all elements of nature.
