In this Walk and Talk, I urge my fellow parents and other adults to be very careful about talking too much about the culture crisis, the violence, etc, in front of children.

POINTS COVERED:

* It's easy to think that our kids aren't really paying attention to our conversation. They are, and more to tone than to the content

* Kids deserve to be allowed to be kids for as long as prudently possible. Building tree forts, learning new skills, playing board games, reading, hiking, swimming, camping.

* Some parents drag their kids into conversations that are not only way above their heads, but serve only to make the parent seem like he's a white knight, bravely fighting for civilization.

* Children, especially preteen kids, above need security and safety. They need wall to wall affirmation and the sense that mom and dad are there to protect them and guide them in age-appropriate ways.

* There is no template formula that applies to all.

* Col 3: 21 "Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged."

* Phil 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

* Eph 6:4 "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord."

* The question becomes, how are YOU dealing with YOUR fears about what's happening around us, and how much do YOU limit your social media consumption?
