There can be few people in the West who are unaware that Caribbeans and African-Americans are the descendants of slaves taken from Africa and transported to another continent. Only professional anthropologists though, are ikely to know that in India and Sri Lanka live hundreds of thousands of black people whose ancestors were also African slaves. These people do not make a fuss about reparations or ‘decolonising’ the statues and streets of their country. Instead, they simply get on with their lives and behave like their neighbours.
