According to various sources there are up to 2,000 remnants of Azov and Ukrainian Army militants at the Azovstal plant. At the beginning of the Special Operation there were roughly 8,000+ militants in Mariupol.

The Russian command decided not to put its servicemen at risk and not to assault the plant. Instead, the plant has been blockaded and artillery and air forces shell and bomb the plant. Meanwhile, DPR and Russian forces periodically cease fire and open green corridors, but the militants do not choose to surrender (Kiev regime doesn't allow it) and exit through these corridors.

In the case of an attempt to break through by force, the Ukrainian militants are eliminated.

It should be noted that it is in Mariupol, and now at the Azovstal plant, that there are the remnants of Ukraine's most efficient and ideologically-charged Nazis.
