Ukraine's Petro Poroshenko admitted his defeat and congratulated Vladimir Zelensky on his victory. In a telephone conversation, Poroshenko offered Zelensky his help and kind advice, if need be. In response, Zelensky said that he was ready to invite Poroshenko to work as a minister in Ukraine's new government, "if people say that they want to see him as a minister."
Vladimir Zelensky reacted calmly to his victory. After the polling stations were closed, he thanked his supporters and said that he wanted to express gratitude to his parents, his wife for their strength and endurance, as well as to all the Ukrainians who supported him. Zelensky promised that he would never let them down.
Zelensky plans to pay first priority attention to building relations with Moscow. When he takes office as president, his "task number one" will be to strive for the return of Ukrainian sailors who were arrested in Russia during the Kerch Strait scandal. He also intends to start a "powerful information war" to end the conflict in the Donbass.
In early April, Zelensky said that he was ready for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the conflict in the Donbas. He said that he would not be willing to make territorial concessions because he insists on the integrity of Ukraine.
Zelensky has his own plan to end the war in the Donbas, which consists of several stages. The first one is a cease-fire. In addition, he believes that the Ukrainian authorities should resume making social payments to residents of the region.
