This song tells the story of the New York Volunteer Regiments and especially of the 11th Infantry Regiment during The War of Independence and in the American Civil War.
The line „Tis my delight to march and fight like a New York Volunteer!“ makes me think of a little boy seeing the soldiers marching out of the town, maybe even his brother or his father being in the ranks.
