This is by far my most favorite French soldier song. So I created a special video for this song with some battle scenes from Napoleon Total War and added lyrics to it so you can sing along. I hope you enjoy it and feel free to give me feedback on the video. I would really appreciate it.
About the song:
Auprès de ma blonde" or "Le Prisonnier de Hollande" is a popular french chanson dating back to the 17th century. The song tells the story of a lady who laments to the birds in her father's garden that her soldier-husband is a prisoner in Holland. The first known publishing of the song was in 1704. Soon after the Franco-Dutch War in 1672–1678 when French sailors and soldiers were commonly imprisoned in the Netherlands. It later became very popular in the ranks of Napoleons Grande Armée.
