3D printing explosive shape charges is becoming our new favorite field to research. The whole concept of 3D printing allows for very detailed designs to be made with relative ease and low investment. It also allows us to develop custom explosive shaped charges that rival traditional designs while reducing cost and weight. We made this one with a custom mixture of metals that is infused into a filament then printed. The charge is then filled with a high explosive and tested against a common target. In this test, we use a 25mm plate of AR500 steel. Commonly seen at rifle ranges as an audible target that can take a beating. It can hold up against rifle projectiles, but a shaped charge is another story.

Grenades are simple yet effective explosive devices. Basically, they are portable explosive devices with their own delay ignition system that you can readily fit into your pocket. No joke. The key thing to remember when dealing with ITAR, is to know what's on the United States Munitions List (USML). If it's on the USML, it's a Defense Article controlled under ITAR.

If it is a Defense Article controlled under ITAR, "Technical Data" related to the Defense Article is also export controlled. Technical Data is: information "which is required for the design, development, production, manufacture, assembly, operation, repair, testing, maintenance, or modification of defense articles. This includes information in the form of blueprints, drawings, photographs, plans, instructions, or documentation".

So, making a video on a Defense Article which discusses its design, development, production, manufacture, assembly, operation, repair, testing, maintenance, or modification of defense articles; runs the risk of being seen as Technical Data.

Thanks to 3D printing, we are now able to product fully functional land mines. From standard static landmines to the infamous bouncing Betty land mine. We have launched all sorts of explosive devices from the can cannon made by X-Products. It's a neat little device that turns your AR platform into a soda can launcher. It did not take us long to figure out it was a great system to launch grenades. Especially, 3D printed grenades. We devised a crafty ignition system to works during launch of the projectile with a clever safety mechanism. To test it out, we launched a smoke grenade through the can cannon to see if it works.

We saw a video recently that demonstrated that the skin of a pineapple is very flame-resistant. We didn't believe it at first since it was on the internet, and videos are faked all the time. We purchased a few pineapples to test out if this is true. Since we do make wild weapons and exotic incendiaries, we figured we would take it up a notch and test the pineapple skin against a 3D-printed thermite grenade. Thermite can reach a temperature of 2500 centigrade which is enough to melt iron into butter. So if the pineapple can survive that temp, then it can surely get the Ordnance Lab stamp of fireproof approval.

The Israeli pager bomb really is blowing up over in the Middle East. Pun intended. They managed to turn this archaic communication device into little demons of explosive potential. We tested a smaller pager bomb with great success. So we asked the question of what a bigger pager bomb do? So, we got a few of the models seen in the news and armed them with nearly twice the amount of explosive. Since these pagers don't clip onto the belt, we will demonstrate what a pager bomb can do if it blows up in your face.

Pipe bombs are crude yet effective explosive devices. Sean got the explosive bug bite when he first made one. Since pipe bombs are improvised devices, there is no set standard on how to make them and what to fill them with. We recorded another pipe bomb explosion in slow motion with a more common explosive to show you what it looks like at about 9,000 frames a second with a phantom camera. The detail is amazing as you can see the shockwave travel out and fragmentation flying all over the place.

The pager bomb is the latest creation you may have seen circulating the interwebs. Israel recently managed to arm a ridiculous amount of pagers that were distributed amongst Hamas agents. One day, they paged them all and a tiny amount of explosive turned the pager into a wicked explosive device. The amount of explosives reported in the devices varies depending on your source. Some say as little as 2 grams and others say as much as 10 grams. We decided to test these little buggers by recreating the pager bomb ourselves. We purchased a series of different pagers and proceeded to arm them to see how powerful they could be. Most wouldn't think a few grams of explosive could be deadly, but you would be sadly mistaken. Even half a gram is enough to do serious harm.

We have experimented heavily with pipe bombs on the channel for different projects. Sean is a huge fan of them as that is how he caught the explosive bug. Recently, we were working with a high speed project for another project, and figured we would record a pipe bomb explosion for your viewing pleasure. This one was packed with a common improvised explosive to give you an idea of what one would look like and recorded at 9000 frames a second. Now, we can make these all day long without issues. Do not try and emulate what we do as you can run into major legal issues or harm yourself. Basically, don't try this at home.

You have seen this 3D printed modification make it's rounds on the internet thanks to Mad Pig Customs. Basically, a 3D printed pistol attachment that allows for a jar of Tannerite to be placed directly in front of a pistol. Why would anyone want to do this? We literally don't know at all. But the real question is will this even work? Tannerite will not go off if the incoming projectile isn't traveling fast enough. It's all about kinetic energy. So we decided to put it to the test and see if the arm yeeter 5000 will even work.

Bounding land mines are something scary. You might know them by their nickname Bouncing Betty. They work by launching a munition a short distance from the ground and throwing fragmentation in a 360 degree pattern. Thanks to the marvels of 3D printing, we developed our own 3D printed bounding land mine. Though still in the prototype stage, they are proving to be very effective. Now we have the perfect solution to keep people off our lawns and ensure unwanted guests stay at a safe distance.

Our 3D Printed soda bottle shaped charge worked way better than we expected. Previously, our soda bottle shaped charges were kind of inconsistent in performance. Some worked fairly well and others didn't do much. By 3D printing an adapter, it drastically improved the performance of the soda bottle shaped charge. But how effective are they now? So, we stacked a bunch of plates on top of each other to see how deep the 3D printed soda bottle shape charge could go.

3D printing is amazing on so many levels. It lets us make a lot of devices without having to resort to expensive manufacturing. It also lets us improve upon older designs we once though were not so great. In this case, we 3D printed an adapter to make improved soda bottle shape charges. This drastically improves our ability to make them more efficient and also more quickly. Does it work better than our original soda bottle shape charge? The BLU-43 Dragontooth is one of the smallest landmines ever made. Its small explosive payload can be severely damaging to one's foot. Hence the title of toepopper. It was cooked up during the Vietnam War to be dropped via air across large areas to deny access to infantry forces and even vehicles. We 3D printed a Dragontooth mine to see how effective they are. So we placed one under a mannequin and detonated it to measure the damage it can do.

Have you heard of the soda bottle shape charge? Well, after this video, you definitely will have. It was described in a US Army field manual as an improvised device for punching through armor. The bottle serves as both the liner and the standoff. All that is missing is explosives and a decent container to keep it all together. The soda bottle shape charge isn't the best concept, but it can still punch through steel. Even armor steel such as a plate of AR500 steel. We recently developed a nifty 3D printed all-in-one container to instantly turn most soda bottles into a shape charge. How effective is our 3D printed soda bottle shape charge device? As Jake likes to say: very effective.

Thermite is many things. It's a hot burning mixture that reaches incredible temperature. It is a great way to quickly weld railroads and other metal items. It can rapidly destroy equipment when employed properly. According to Youtube, it is also an explosive. Is this correct, though? No, duh. Thermite is not an explosive. Youtube recently removed one of our videos making the claim that it is an explosive. A statement that is very much false. So, we decided to address that and prove that thermite is not an explosive with good old fashion science.

Cherry bombs are old-school fireworks that sadly are not available to the public. They were banned back in 1966 by the US government. Back in the day, people could buy cherry bombs along with other consumer fireworks and wreck havoc with their rather impressive explosive potential. This includes people flushing them down the toilet and causing a legit mess. Since it is the 4th of July, setting off fireworks is a must for many Americans. So, we decided to show everyone what a legitimate cherry bomb can do when placed in a toilet. Nothing says "Murica" like setting off a cherry bomb in a toilet.

Our 3D printed experiments continue with the explosive waterjet device. Very similar to the conical waterjet charge we demonstrated before. Except, this one is not a conical design but rather a linear one. Pretty self-explanatory in the title. 3D printing allows us to form different geometries to get different effects. This 3D printed explosive linear waterjet charge is one prototype we are testing against a scuba tank. The concept is very much in the developmental stage so we are still figuring out the ideal geometries for each device.

Our 80mm explosively formed penetrator (EFP) suffered a humiliating defeat in our last video. A 50mm block of hardened steel stopped the penetrator dead in it's tracks. So, our 80mm EFP did some major self-improvement and now is a mighty 90mm EFP. A simply increase of 10mm means it has a larger penetrator and more explosive packed behind it. This means it should be able to penetrate more armor without issues. To test it out, we place it against a large engine block to see if it has what it takes to punch through a lot of metal.

Today's episode of EFP vs Blank involves our reigning champion of anti-armor devices: the 80mm Explosively Formed Penetrator or EFP for short. Explosively Formed Penetrator is such a mouthful of a title. Our 3D-printed EFP has penetrated every target we have put before it so far. Brian (not Cody) recently brought us a big slab of hardened steel to see if it could stop our 3D-printed EFP. We printed up a fresh EFP and put the two against each other. Did our 80mm 3D Printed EFP defeat the slab of metal? Watch and find out, obviously.
