Can Washington save the restive south-east of Ukraine? The United States government offered its assistance in the establishment of the new regime in the south-east of Ukraine. Fighting continues in the region, and the number of victims grows daily. Last week, the National Guard of Ukraine took Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. The Kiev troops assumed that victory over the militia was in their hands. Meanwhile, US Vice President Joe Biden and Ukrainian leader Poroshenko discuss the implementation of the peace plan, which, as the president of Ukraine believes, will only work when the militia lay down their arms. It seems, though, that Washington has approved the plan to cleanse the restive regions. Will the recovery be identical to the sad experience of Afghanistan and Iraq?
