Splitting the whole into two competing ideologies results in chaotic disharmony which resonates outwardly from the society to the individual. The function of the shaman is to work between the realms to keep things in balance. But, by enforcing a materialistic duality that removes animism from the landscape, humanity are loose radicals ping-ponging around desperately seeking order. Thus, they gravitate to one of the ideologies presented on the buffet offered by our handlers. This is a surrogate. Individuals and the society at large remain dysfunctional yet more easily herded.
