The UK has imposed sanctions on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and some other senior figures in the country over the last month’s disputed presidential election. Dominic Raab also accused the Belarusian government of human rights violations. Canada also announced sanctions on the Belarusian administration citing similar allegations. Since then the country has witnessed many protests that turned violent on some occasions.
