The Chicano movement a.k.a. "La Raza" is a mixture of revolutionary Marxism and Mexican ultra nationalism. The movement is virulently anti-American. For example, communist revolutionaries, Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, are celebrated in the murals at the Park, where this protest began.
Chicanos and La Raza claim the southwestern United States as their mystical national homeland, Aztlan. After they take power, Aztlan is ultimately to be united with Mexico. This outrageous anti-American park and its murals have been funded for nearly 50 years by the city of San Diego, as well as by the state and federal governments.
