The Communist Party of Peru was unique because it waged armed struggle during the 1980s and 1990s, the period that bourgeois triumphalists termed "the collapse of Communism". Led by Abimael Guzmán, the PCP (known erroneously to many as the Shining Path) was the product of almost two decades of development before initiating armed struggle in 1980. I will discuss the importance of the PCP, its errors and strong points, and its relevance to the development of the International Communist Movement in the 21st Century.
