Dr. Lively talks about being willing to learn by trial and error in front of people as an important part of being a real person, which is itself a part of living the Biblical lifestyle. Presenting yourself only at your best is like putting on a fake smile at church and pretending that your life is perfect, sending the unhealthy message that flaws and struggles should stay hidden. The Bible says to "confess your sins one to another" which, among other things, means being an open and honest person about the difficulties of living in this world. Letting people see how you cope as a Christian with day to day challenges and learn from your mistakes is one of the most loving and redemptive things you can do.
