Today, one day after Congress certified Biden as the winner of the 2020 election, President Trump announced that he won’t attend Biden’s inauguration; and while has said there “will be a peaceful transition of power” he has not conceded the election to Biden. At the moment, President Trump continues to absorb heavy criticism for the violent “storming of the Capital” on January 6th.
We explore what’s behind the violence that taking place that day and ask whether the situation was really as straight forward as the media’s portrayal of irresponsible Trump supporters spurred on by their “ringleader”, President Trump.
Following what happened at the Capitol, a number of lawmakers chose to back down from challenging electoral college votes; other officials have since resigned from the Trump administration citing the violence at the Capitol as their reason. However, there’s other lawmakers, like Republican Senator Josh Hawley, who continue to suffer the “cancel culture” of our times for defending the constitution at all personal cost. He was the first Senator to state his intent to challenge the votes of certain swing states in the lead up to the joint session.
