In a November 2018 press conference, Acosta claimed that there was no invasion going on at the U.S.-Mexico Border. He also accused Trump of "creating a crisis" at the border so he could justify building the border wall.
Approximately 10,000 undocumented migrants traveled in caravans between October and December 2018. These groups of migrants fled Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala, finally arriving in Tijuana. Many waited in line to file for asylum; some, however, climbed the border wall and even stood in front of cars and stopped traffic.
Jim Acosta referred to it as just a "group of migrants in a caravan coming from Central America," thus downplaying the number of undocumented migrants crossing the border. He also suggested that an ad depicting migrants climbing the border wall was staged by crisis actors.
Acosta also stated that the crime rate among undocumented immigrants was lower than that of U.S. citizens. Although reports do substantiate this claim, the date is inconclusive since a number of factors are not accounted for.
