In this video, I take a look at the genetic origins of the Turkic invaders of Iran and their impact on the genetics of contemporary Iranians, Kurds, and neighboring Turkic populations from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. Overall, the Turks seem to have left a minimal genetic impact on Iran, averaging around 2 to 4%, the highest being 6.7% among the Iranian Persians from the east. Among Turkic speakers in Azerbaijan the average is around 10% Turkic ancestry. This ancestry, however, is much higher in the Turkmen where it is around 33%.
