Trump's National Sanctuary Policy

People talk about sanctuary cities, counties and states. It should be pointed out that America now is a sanctuary nation, though the politicians don’t call it that. Politicians are often trying to shift the goal posts on the sly. Trump adopted Obama’s illegal national sanctuary policy, that is concentrating almost exclusively on deporting serious criminals. Those illegal aliens, who are not criminal are not being detained and deported in significant numbers. That means that about 90% of illegal aliens have little, if any, fear of being deported. For them America is a sanctuary nation. Such a policy encourages more illegals to come. If they get into the interior of the nation, they are home-free. They are very unlikely to be deported, even, if they have just arrived. The law requires that *all* illegal aliens be deported, not just a certain class of illegal aliens that the president may deem worthy of being deported. His job is to execute the law, not make it up as he goes. As long as we have this policy in place, the idea that Trump and Jeff Sessions are going to defund sanctuary cities and states is just a very bad joke.

For example, Special Order 40 was, the first sanctuary policy -- or one of the first -- in the United States, implemented in 1979 in Los Angeles. It is typical of early sanctuary policies. This is an excerpt. The procedure states that number one, local law enforcement does not normally check the immigration status of people.
Number two, if a person is charged with a serious crime or multiple misdemeanors, his immigration status can be checked and he can be reported for potential detainment and deportation. Trump’s policy is very similar. He is not disturbing illegal aliens unless they are serious criminals. This is, in fact, a sanctuary policy for the entire nation. In other words, the goal posts have been shifted.

It is Special Order No. 40, not "140" as mis-stated in the clip.
