Have you found yourself dealing with debate and disagreement among our family and friends in light of the latest ambiguous, weird, or perplexing thing Pope Francis (or one of his hirelings) said or did? Do you find yourself feeling defensive for the first time and even accused of being divisive?

You are not alone. In this kitchen-based commentary, I share some ideas and reminders of how to stay calm when tensions set in. Jesus told us flat out that He didn't come to bring peace, but a sword (Mt 10), and then He provides the context: following Him as a disciple means making Him number one in your life. The strongly held opinions of spouses, brothers, sisters, uncles, pals, etc. can't compare with the teachings of Christ and His lordship. Hence, tensions and being an enemy (Jesus is using Jewish hyperbole here) with otherwise close relations is part of the life of the Christian.
